DAVAO CITY — This city has been chosen by the Tourism Promotions Board to host the MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences/conventions, exhibitions/events) Conference 2020.
In a text message on Thursday, Tourism Office chief Generose Tecson said this city outbid Clark Development Corp. to host the biggest gathering of MICE professionals in the country.
“As we are positioning ourselves as the MICE capital of the Philippines and BIMP EAGA, this gives us a chance to renew ties with old economic and tourism stakeholders, as well as make new connections,” Tecson said, referring to the Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area.
“It also gives us a chance to showcase our city as a diverse, all-inclusive, multicultural city with peace-loving and disciplined people,” she added.
Tecson earlier said the strong partnership between the government and the private sector was a big factor for the city’s winning bid.
“The city is very much ready to host the event and all sectors from the government and private are working hard as a team to win the bid. The successful hosting in 2013 of (a) similar event was proof of the strong teamwork of both sectors,” she added.
The convention is a highly-anticipated educational event for travel and tourism professionals, as well as MICE practitioners for its range of topics, renowned speakers, and themed events, organizers said.
This year’s MICEConnect will be held in conjunction with the 18th Philippine Travel Exchange. (PNA)
